October Film Night - "Basquiat" (1996)

Wednesday, October 2nd │ 7:00-9:00 pm
Members: Complimentary │Non-Members: Standard Guest Fee

Directed by Julian Schnabel (At Eternity’s Gate, 2018, a film about Vincent van Gogh), Basquiat tells the story of Haitian artist Jean Michel Basquiat (Jeffrey Wright). Basquiat started out as a street artist in the early 1980s, living in a cardboard box, but was discovered and entered into Andy Warhol’s esoteric circle of associates. Success was short-lived as was the artist. The film features many luminaries: David Bowie (Andy Warhol), Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe, Parker Posie, Tatum O’Neil and even our own Courtney Love as Big Pink! Tagline: “In 1981, a Nineteen-Year-Old Unknown Graffiti Writer Took The New York Art World By Storm. The Rest Is Art History.” Join us for the second film of the series celebrating off-beat artists.

Enjoy complimentary appetizers and wine during the film, as well as post-film discussion with film buff, Jim Clauss.
